No rest for the Swifties!
Just hours before Taylor Swift kicked off The Eras tour in Glendale, Ariz., the Grammy winner treated fans to four brand-new songs March 17. Without hesitation, fans began dissecting the lyrics and suspected that "All of the Girls You Loved Before" is about Joe Alwyn.
So, why are fans enchanted by the new track?
For starters, Taylor begins her pre-chorus by singing, "Your past and mine are parallel lines / Stars all aligned and they intertwined." The lyrics reminded fans of another song she wrote about Joe on midnights titled "Mastermind" where she sings, "Once upon a time, the planets and the fates / And all the stars aligned / You and I ended up in the same room / At the same time."
Later on in "All of the Girls You Loved Before," the 33-year-old sings, "The way you call me 'baby' / Treat me like a lady."
Fans quickly flashed back to Taylor's reputation hit "King of My Heart," which is also about Joe. In the track, she sings, "We met a few weeks ago / Now you try on callin' me 'baby' like tryin' on clothes."
And if fan theories end up being true and Taylor's latest song is inspired by her boyfriend, the chorus appears to thank the women who have been linked to Joe before.
"All of the girls you loved before / Made you the one I've fallen for," she sings. "Every dead-end street led you straight to me / Now you're all I need, I'm so thankful for all of the girls you loved before."
Taylor began dating Joe in the fall of 2016 and has provided a glimpse into her private romance in several songs. In her 2019 album Lover, Taylor sings about finding her person after various heartbreaks in songs like "I Think He Knows," "Cornelia Street" and "London Boy."
And in a plot twist, "All of the Girls You Loved Before" was originally supposed to be on the Lover album.
"‘All Of The Girls You Loved Before' is about the one and only person she loves: a boy named Joe Alwyn," one Twitter user wrote. Another fan added, "The meaning of this song is so special, Taylor is so grateful to have found a man like Joe that she's grateful for everyone that made him him how pure is that???"
